Peter Bonica Mary DiBella writes: My family emigrated from Filicudi (an island just north-west of the coast of Sicily) to Sydney in the 1930s. We owned a fruit shop in Macleay St, Potts Point during the 30s and the 40s. One memory was of being a young teenager, trying to learn English in a new country, and working at the shop with my brother Joe Loblanco, my cousin Peter Bonica, and two other men employed by my father. We would start at the shop before 7 each morning, cleaning the shelves and making sure everything was orderly for when my father arrived from the market with the fresh fruit. |
