John Bonanno John Vigilante migrated to Australia at eighteen years of age from Calabria in 1938. He purchased his first fruit shop at North Bondi in 1947 and his wife Mary describes the shop as ‘nicely outfitted’ for the fruit, vegetables and drinks they sold. Typically, after a 4am visit to the City Markets, the shop opened at 7am and closed around 10pm at night. The shop was open later on the weekends.
